Look, standard clear quartz lamps are great, but they aren’t for every job. Sometimes you need something more targeted. That’s why we built these 300mm ruby halogen lamps. At 300W, they hit that sweet spot for medium-duty thermal work without going overboard. The Basics: Power and Size The 300mm length is what gives you your heating footprint. We’ve balanced the 300W load across that space specifically so you don’t end up with hot spots that warp your materials. One big tip: keep an eye on your power supply. Make sure your voltage matches up. I know it’s tempting to over-volt them to get things heating up faster, but don’t do it. You’ll just kill the lamp way sooner than you should. Why the Red Coating? You’ll notice the “ruby” red color. It’s not just to make the machine look cool. That coating actually filters the light, pushing the heat into longer wavelengths. This is a lifesaver because it lets the heat soak deep into your part instead of just scorching the surface. We use high-grade quartz to handle the heat shock, but here is the catch:**don’t touch the glass with your bare hands.**The oils from your skin stick to the quartz and create a tiny hot point. Eventually, that point gets too hot and the glass just snaps. Wear gloves. Always. Getting Them Set Up We offer a few different end-cap options—like R7s or custom pinch-seal leads—so these should slide right into your existing jigs. Just make sure those connections are tight. A loose terminal can cause arcing, and that’s a quick way to melt your housing. These are a go-to for PET blowing and curing plastics. Since the ruby coating absorbs a bit of the energy, your cycles might take a few seconds longer than they would with a clear lamp. But the payoff is a much more even heat. One last thing. Check your reflectors. If they’re oxidized or dirty, you’re basically throwing away 20% of your power. Give them a polish and you’re good to go.
