Getting Your Industrial Drying Right with Halogen Quartz Lamps
When you’re dealing with rapid heating cycles, things get stressful—especially for your equipment. That’s why we build our halogen infrared lamps using high-purity quartz. It’s tough enough to handle the heat without cracking. We also add a halogen gas fill inside the tubes. Without it, the tungsten filament would just evaporate and burn out way too fast under heavy loads. This little detail is what keeps your line running instead of leaving you with a dead lamp in the middle of a shift. Let’s talk about the heat. The amount of punch you get depends on the voltage and wattage you pick. High-wattage tubes create a concentrated blast of heat. It’s fast. Really fast. We’re talking seconds to hit your target temperature, not minutes. But here’s the thing: you’ve got to match the tube length to your conveyor width. If you don’t, you’ll end up with cold spots. And be careful not to go overboard with the power in a short tube. If you push it too hard, you risk cracking the quartz or melting your housing. It’s all about balance. The nitty-gritty on materials We stick with quartz for a simple reason: it lets short-wave IR radiation slide right through. The energy doesn’t get trapped in the lamp; it goes straight into your workpiece. As for plugging them in, we usually go with R7s or SK15 connectors. They’re basically drop-in replacements for most industrial racks. They snap in tight, so you don’t have to worry about them vibrating loose while the machines are humming along. Putting them to work You’ll see these lamps everywhere—PET blowing, curing paint, drying ink. The whole goal is to get moisture out as quickly as possible. Since these lamps hit full temp almost instantly, they play really well with PID controllers. You can manage your heat zones precisely, which means you won’t accidentally scorch your materials. Just one tip: check your ventilation. If the airflow is too low, the heat builds up around the lamp bank and triggers a thermal trip. Keep it breathing, and you’re good to go.
