Introduction
We built this 400V, 3000W infrared halogen heat lamp for one reason: to cure automotive paint faster and smarter. It throws intense, targeted heat right onto the panel—so you can speed up your work without turning the whole booth into a sauna.
Power, Voltage, and Output—Why It Matters
Here’s the thing: 3000W packed into one lamp means serious heat density. That’s exactly what you need to drive out solvents and cure coatings quickly. And the 400V? Not random. It’s a line-voltage choice that lowers current draw compared to lower-voltage options. Less current means less voltage drop over long cable runs, and you don’t need oversized wiring. In a busy paint bay, that translates to cleaner installation and a power supply that stays steady, even when you’re running back-to-back jobs.
What It’s Made Of—Halogen, Quartz, and the Right Connection
Inside, you’ve got an infrared halogen bulb wrapped in a quartz envelope. Quartz handles rapid heating and cooling without blinking, so the output stays consistent day after day. The halogen cycle keeps the filament clean, which helps the lamp hold its output over time. And the shortwave infrared output is tuned to cut straight through the topcoat—heating from the surface inward, instead of waiting on slow air convection. We chose an R7s connector because it gives you a solid, straight-line electrical connection and drops right into standard fixtures. The whole build is tough enough to take the vibration and thermal shock of real shop life.
How It Actually Helps in the Booth
In practice, this lamp shines at spot curing, panel-by-panel drying, and speeding up clear coat cure times. The infrared energy hits the painted surface directly, so you’re not wasting energy heating the air around it. That focused heat also helps keep dust and contaminants from settling onto fresh coatings.
The Trade-Off and What to Watch For
Make no mistake—3000W is a lot of heat. You need space around the fixture and a plan for thermal management. Plan your mounting distance, and make sure your booth’s electrical setup can handle the 400V load. When you set it up right, you get repeatable cure results and a fast, controllable heat source that fits naturally into your repair workflow.
